    一方水土，养育一方之人；孕育一方文化。广东地处祖国南疆，北负五岭，南濒海洋，史称岭南。在过去的几千年中，岭南人民用勤劳和智慧创造了悠久灿烂的历史文化，涌现了一批又一批承前启后、继往开来的杰出人物，逐渐形成了兼收并蓄、务实进取、独树一帜的岭南文化。在这片土地上，一大批书画名家创作了具有鲜明特点的岭南风格作品，形成了中国近现代画坛上重要的绘画流派——岭南画派。

    展览囊括了岭南艺术名家的精品力作，如居廉、关山月、黎雄才、杨善深、赵少昂、陈树人、卢子枢、张白英、李凤公、容祖椿、黄少梅、陈伯陶、黄般若、伍德彝、赵浩公等，其中既有岭南画派大师的作品，又有岭南实力派书画名家的作品，较为集中地反映了岭南书画的风格和水平。展览还呈现了可园张氏家族的代表作品，如张敬修、张嘉谟和张崇光等精品。可园张氏家族虽以武功起家，但个个工诗善画，在园林和诗画方面给后世影响甚大，留下了熠熠生辉的可园，留下了美妙传神的诗词，留下了“视如拱璧”的墨宝，也留下了岭南画派先师居巢、居廉在可园艺术探索的足迹。

    我们希望通过这些书画作品，让大家领会他们不凡的技艺，感受他们丰富的内心世界，从中领略近现代岭南名家书画家的风采，同时也希望此次展览，促进温州与东莞两地的文化交流，增进博物馆事业发展活力。

Foreword

    Each place has its streams in from all over the country. Guangdong is located in the south end of China and faces the South China Sea, which is also commonly referred to as “South of the Ridges”, or Lingnan, because it is geographically separated from the north by a few mountain ranges collectively called the Five Ranges. Over the past millennia, this region bred a century-old history and splendid culture, which is accompanied by the emergence of many prominent and prestigious figures, and gradually forming a regional culture featured with eclecticism, pragmatic and enterprising spirit, and uniqueness. On the very land, a large number of calligraphers and painters created the artistic works with distinctive style and later became one of the most influential schools of painting in China—Lingnan School of Painting.

    This exhibition showcases a collective of representative works of artists of Lingnan School, including Ju Lian, Guan Shanyue, Li Xiongcai, Yang Shanshen, Zhao Shaoang, Chen Shuren, Lu Zishu, Zhang Baiying, Li Fenggong, Rong Zuchun, Huang Shaomei, Chen Botao, Huang Banruo, Wu Deyi, Zhao Haogong, etc. Among them, there are works of the masters as well as promising and talented painters of Lingnan School of Painting, which demonstrates the style and level of this School. Besides, this exhibition also displays the representative works of Keyuan Zhang’s Family, including Zhang Jingxiu, Zhang Jiamo and Zhang Congguang. Although Keyuan Zhang’s Family gained fame with their skilled martial arts, each of them also has a brilliant talent in poetry and painting. They left a rich legacy of a fabulous Keyuan Garden, imagery poems, precious artistic works, and a trace of Lingnan School forerunners Ju chao and Ju Lian.

    Through exhibiting those artistic works, we hope visitors have an opportunity to appreciate the contemporary Lingnan artists’ marvelous painting skills and to probe into their rich inner world. Meanwhile, we also hope this exhibition can promote the cultural exchange between Wenzhou and Dongguan and vitalize the museum enterprise.
